May 15, 2026:  Spring 2026 Semester Blog Recap

When I decided to write a series of blogs about student services at Fresno State, I knew it was going to be a rewarding experience.  I had a general idea of what services were available to students, and I was excited to highlight those I felt were the most crucial to student success.  What I didn’t know was how much I was going to learn as I did my research for each blog.

Throughout this journey of finding resources, helping students discover them, and learning quite a bit myself, I’ve learned just how much support Fresno State has to offer students.  Although this entry completes this semester’s blog series, there is so much I discovered about available services that is important for students to know.  There are services from wellness to special support programs – so many resources for students.

For example, did you know that Fresno State has a Student Recreation Center? It’s located next to the Save Mart Center, is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and is loaded with exercise equipment.  They have free weights, treadmills, squat racks with deadlift bars, gymnasiums, indoor basketball courts, and so much more! And students have access to it absolutely free of charge.  And as long as we’re talking fitness, students have access to one-on-one nutrition services with registered dietitians through the Student Health Center.  Appointments can be scheduled here. The appointments offer general healthy eating tips, a review of eating habits, weight management, and personal goal setting. They even take into account chronic conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes.

Another awesome set of student services addresses academic assistance options for those with disabilities on campus. Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) provides a variety of accommodations for students. Resources include free literary support software that helps with reading and writing, and ASL interpreters that can assist students and faculty in meetings and classes. Access requires a simple eligibility screening process. Another helpful service is the TRiO Student Support Services Program Disabilities (SSS-D).  The program aims to help undergraduate students with disabilities remain in college and stay in good academic standing.   Access to SSS-D services is the same process as SSD.

An awesome hub of services for students is the Student Success and Belonging Center (SSBC).  It provides coordinated support that helps students navigate academic and personal challenges while building community for those who may not have it. Their main focus is to help those who may experience challenges based on their race and ethnicity, gender and identity, immigration status, financial need, and more. They offer peer guidance, coaching, and case management to support students' academic success and overall well-being.  SSBC prioritizes early outreach to students and intervention when students face challenges. They also provide advice about other campus services to connect students with resources on campus like advising and financial support programs.

When I decided to write this series of blogs about student services at Fresno State, I really had no idea how much information there is to share.  It would probably fill a novel instead of a blog.  I encourage you to check out the Fresno State Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management website to access information about all the student services available to Fresno State students.  These resources are there to assist you on your educational journey, and are paid for by your student fees.  Find the ones you need sooner rather than later during your time at Fresno State.
