April 1, 2026:  Fresno State Learning Center

The Fresno State Learning Center is a campus resource that every Fresno State student should take advantage of.  They provide a wide range of assistance to support student success through services that improve content understanding and course grades.  You can utilize their Tutoring option (one-on-one tutoring), Supplemental Instruction (peer-assisted study sessions) or Academic Success Coaching (personalized academic coaching.) These services are free of charge and incredibly helpful.  The Learning Center is located in the basement level of the library, making it easy to access when you need support.

The Tutoring option is straightforward, with over 50 tutors to choose from. You can schedule tutoring online in just a few clicks, and tutors list their major and the classes they support, along with any specific skills they offer. Options vary by tutor, including availability and meeting type. But with the variety, students are bound to find someone just right for them! I’ve known plenty of people who have used this system, and it really worked for them.

Peer-assisted study sessions, or Supplemental Instruction (SI), is a program that provides students with the opportunity to work in study groups with classmates for specific classes. These groups are led by students who have previously done well in the course. They offer students an opportunity to learn study strategies, gain a better understanding of the material, and improve their grade. This is a voluntary program, but it can be a great help to students. Students can check if SI is offered for their course through their class schedule or find more information on the Learning Center’s SI webpage. Best of all, this program is free and already included in your tuition, so it couldn’t hurt to try.

For students who are struggling with time management, motivation, or study skills, Academic Success Coaching (ASC) is a great resource. They offer personalized support to help improve academic success. There are multiple coaches available, with options for virtual and in-person support. Students can also attend live workshops on topics like managing stress, improving time management, and staying organized. If students can’t attend, recorded workshops are also available.

Additionally, if students are interested in becoming a tutor, SI leader, academic coach, or even a promoter for the Learning Center, they can find application information on the Learning Center’s website.

The Learning Center is a full-service program that offers overall support for academic success. Students deal with a lot of challenges in their classes, and this is a place that can help you stay on track and overcome those challenges. These are services you already pay for, so take advantage of them.
