February 1, 2026:  Fresno State Career Development Center

In my January 15 blog, I mentioned that the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships is one of the most important resources on campus.  I would argue that the Career Development Center (CDC) is the next in line. After applying for scholarships and grants, the next step is to get a job - and they can help you find great jobs on campus! They assist students with many opportunities including finding internships, career counseling, graduate school prep, and pointing students to job fairs and networking events.

It's never easy to find a job that works with your class schedule, and the current job market makes it even more difficult.  The good news is that the CDC makes it easy and straightforward to apply for jobs at Fresno State. By using the “Hire Fresno State” service in the student portal, you can access job listings on campus. There are a few options for students to choose from. These positions range from assisting campus services to custodial work in the many buildings on campus. The only requirement is a resume to apply. Although the available weekly hours are capped at 20, it is still a great opportunity for students.

Do you need help with a cover letter, drafting a resume, or applying? You can get direct assistance from the CDC weekdays between 9am and 3pm in University Student Union Room 306.

Beyond finding a job during your time at Fresno State, the CDC also provides important assistance to students who are looking for internships, help with grad school prep, general career counseling and more. Students can search and register for internships through Hire Fresno State and can also contact their department for internships that offer class credit. The CDC offers a calendar of all networking and career counseling events from webinars for interview/resume training to career fairs held every semester. Grad school prep is also offered for those pursuing an advanced degree. Program research, information about available programs, and assistance with anything related to grad school are readily available with a simple stop to the CDC office.

A job on campus is a super convenient way to help pay the bills.  Internships are so important to help students get real-world experience.  Help with grad school, career counseling and all the other services offered at the CDC is like having a personal career coach.  Head over to the University Student Union and take advantage of all these student services!
